Day 2 brought the heat early and often as we crossed two high, steep passes before a long rolling descent into the Kern River Canyon. The first pass, which is unnamed, can be seen in the center of the saddle pictured above.
Both passes required a combination of skinning and bootpacking, which is a better option when the snow becomes too steep, soft, icy, or any other combination of conditions that makes skinning too difficult or inefficient.
Steve and Yu were happy to take in the view at the top of Harrison Pass, approximately 12.500' before starting the long descent.
Dry dirt? How could we pass up a soft and dry campsite? Hang up that stove and let's start eating!
